Bedtime

We all need a good night’s sleep to recover from the day before and to be ready for the day ahead. It's totally normal for children and teens to struggle to get to sleep sometimes, but there are things you can try to make sure that they get a good night's sleep - so you can too!

Top tips for sleep

  1. Have set time and routine for bedtime. This can help your child know what to expect from you and what’s expected of them. You could read a story with them, let them read on their own, or spend a bit of time with them.
  2. Avoid screens for an hour before bedtime. The light of phones, tablets and TV makes your brain think it’s still daytime and makes it hard to fall asleep.
  3. Help them feel safe and happy with where they sleep. Your child might need a nightlight or something like a sleep meditation to settle – or complete darkness and quiet.
