Life after school

When your child is starting to think about next steps after school, there are lots of different options to explore in education, training and starting a career. Even if they want to do something different to what you’ve done, there are ways that you can help them to think through what’s next.

How to help your child to think about their career

  1. Give them advice from your own experience and ask family friends and relatives to share theirs too.
  2. Keep an open mind around all the options – university, apprenticeships and going straight into work.
  3. Remember that nothing is final: most of our first jobs are a steppingstone into a career.
