Urban Workbench – We Make Places

Urban Workbench - We Make Places

Urban Workbench is a Nomadic Learning Hub created for individuals and communities to take control of shaping and making their places, whether simply picking up DIY skills or physically delivering and managing development in their neighbourhood.

Urban Workbench is a We Make Places project which invites local people to develop skills in basic joinery, DIY, furniture making, upcycling and construction, whilst growing their capacity to contribute to positive social activism.

Our learning delivery and live projects offer a 'holistic' approach to skills development, with a primary focus on well-being and self-confidence of individuals and their communities.

Learning Programme

Our Learning Programme classes introduce participants to simple making of objects with up-cycled and affordable materials, aimed at basic DIY and community build projects. Use the links below to find out more.

Our participants typically include people who may have never operated a power tool before, through to seasoned builders and makers. The environment is always inclusive, supportive and great fun.

We deliver specific Learning Programme workshops in partnership with external organisations such as Merseyside Youth Association and Back On Track.

These partnerships allow us to engage with hard-to-reach cohorts that would like to improve their self-confidence, to socialise and expand their peer group, and of course to pick up new skills in basic joinery & DIY.
