Become is the national charity working to improve the everyday lives and future life chances of children in care and young care leavers. Become provide advice and support, influence policy and practice, help guide the lives of young people in care and care leavers, enable them to achieve their education aspirations and train professionals who work with young people.
Propel yourself
Many care leavers go on to achieve amazing things in higher education. So can you.
Propel is your guide to higher and further education for care leavers. There’s loads of support available to help you achieve great things. We provide help, support, and advice so that young people who spend time in care can unleash their potential and take control of their lives.
Higher and Further Education
Making the leap from school to college or college to university can be both daunting and exciting. If you want to be a student there is loads of support available for care leavers to make it happen. You’ll feel proud of your achievement and get confidence from it and you can study something you’re good at and care about.
Support
Whether you’re still in care, a care leaver, or have spent time living away from your parents, Propel can help.
- If you’re feeling worried about money, where you’re going to live, or who to turn to for guidance, the good news is there’s loads of extra support out there just waiting for you to grab.
- If you need help with applying, for funding, accommodation, and/or answers to frequently asked questions, use Propel or contact our friendly team. Our support page includes information and support that you might need when it comes to your application for further or higher education.
- You can also see what the universities and colleges can offer, you’ll find a detailed support checklist on each of their pages, covering things like specific funds for care leavers and year-round accommodation.
And don’t forget to share your plans with your teachers, personal advisers and carers. They know you well and can offer advice and guidance on your options.
