The people at the conference will look at the information in the conference report.

The conference report will say what the social worker has found out about the child and the family.

The report will also say what the social worker thinks will keep the child safe and cared for in the future.

The people at the conference will look at all the information given by people and services who know the child and family.

The people at the conference must decide if the child is at risk of significant harm.

If they think the child is at risk of significant harm the people at the conference will agree to a plan to keep the child cared for and safe.
This is called a child protection plan.

The person in charge of the Conference is called the Chair.

The Chair is an experienced social work manager. Sometimes they have different titles. They might be called IRO, Lead Child Protection Practitioner or CP Chair.

The Chair is not from the same team as the child’s social worker. They are independent of the enquiry.

It is the Chair’s job to look carefully at the plan for the child. They will make sure everyone is doing what they are supposed to.

Parents are always invited to the Conference.

Parents can bring a friend, family member or an advocate to support them at the conference.

Also at the conference will be the childs social worker

Other professionals who work with the family or child.
People like, a teacher, family support worker, health visitor, school nurse, police officer.

At the end of the conference a decision is made on what kind of plan is needed.
