An eating disorder is a medical diagnosis affecting many young people in the UK. It is most likely to develop in the teenage years, most commonly affecting girls, although it does affect boys too.

Some signs that may signal an eating disorder:

  • under eating or over eating (bingeing on food)
  • secrecy around eating behaviours
  • obsessive thoughts about food, eating or weight
  • fear or avoidance of food
  • excessive exercising
  • noticeable weight loss or weight gain
  • lack of energy
  • hair loss
