We are here to advance equality for people with hearing loss across Merseyside. We provide specialist services in a range of communication methods for people who are d/Deaf, Deaf-blind or hard of hearing. Our team delivers community based social care, duty drop-in sessions and environmental aids assessments. Our tutors provide specialist training in Deaf Awareness and British Sign Language as well as BSL interpreter support.
We are proud to be the home of one of the largest Deaf Social Clubs in the country. Our communities and many social groups are at the heart of everything we do.
Merseyside Society for Deaf People provide a guiding hand to support and promote independent living, and as an Ambassador for change that will allow Deaf, Deaf Blind and Hard of Hearing People to access the services they desire, without barriers to hinder their development and contribution to society.
The services provided include:
Social Work – Support and advice
Support Work – Home visits and duty sessions
Equipment – Assessments and repairs
Interpreter Service – Booking and registrations
Deaf Community and Social Activities – MSDP run a variety of community groups for Deaf, Deaf Blind and Hard of Hearing people
Training – The Charity also provides specialist training in Deaf Awareness and British Sign Language from beginner up to Interpreter level
Duty Sessions:
Our Team provides support to Deaf, Deaf-Blind and Hard of Hearing People aged 18 years and over. We provide support for three Local Authorities – Liverpool, Wirral and Sefton.
All our staff have an in-depth knowledge of issues surrounding Deafness and Deaf Blind, and members of the team are able to communicate using the following methods:
- British Sign Language (BSL)
- Sign Support English (SSE)
- Deaf Blind Hands-on/Manual
Our Duty Officers offer duty drop in sessions, in which we can deal with a wide range of issues including; housing-related support, accessing/sign post to other services, managing finances and DWP benefits and support with Health services. We enable clients to be involved in making their own decisions by offering advice and guidance.
