Chester Zoo

Chester Zoo is a zoo at Upton-by-Chester, Cheshire, England. Chester Zoo was opened in 1931 by George Mottershead and his family. It is one of the UK's largest zoos at 51 hectares. The zoo has a total land holding of approximately 160 hectares.

Chester Zoo is a major wildlife charity that is working to prevent extinction all around the world. We are the most popular conservation zoo in the UK and home to over 27,000 animals, from more than 500 different species. It has 128 acres of zoological gardens to explore.
