Afasic

Afasic’s vision is that every child and young person with speech, language and communication needs should be enabled to overcome the challenges they face and become the best they can be.

Afasic’s core purpose is to provide information and support for parents and carers, and also to health, education and care professionals, to enable them to better understand, help and advocate for children with speech, language and communication needs; and to enable children and young people to develop key skills, improve social integration and gain access to educational and legal entitlements.

We are here to help provide information and support to children, young people, and families affected by Speech, Language and Communication Needs.  Our current services include:

  • Providing a confidential, specialist telephone helpline service for carers and parents
  • Organising online courses for parents of children diagnosed with Developmental Language Disorder (DLD)
  • Organising courses for children with Speech, Language, and Communication Needs who are leaving Primary School and starting Secondary School
  • Providing priority information on new/updated publications and events across the UK
  • Information booklets that can be purchased from our website, to help with things such as Accessing Speech and Language Therapy or Claiming Benefits

Support for Parents

  • School Transition Courses, held in the summer holidays for children moving on to Secondary School
  • Our pioneering DLD Together Training Courses for parents
  • Our Parents’ Telephone Helpline

Who is this aimed at?

Afasic supports parents and carers with children and young people who have difficulties with listening, talking and understanding others.

Whether you are a parent or carer seeking help for the first time, looking for additional help or as a young person who is still managing challenges with talking, we hope that we can help you to find the information and access the support that you need.
