What is digital inclusion?

Digital inclusion is about making sure that we have skills and access to digital equipment and the internet. We rely on technology so much these days and, whilst some of us have grown up with these developments, it can be hard to keep up, leaving many of us feeling left behind in this tide of technology.

Why is digital inclusion so important?

It allows people to use online services and allows for greater freedom to access information. The web has transformed almost every aspect of public, private and work life and it has improved people’s lives.

It’s a good idea to find someone who can help us overcome any barriers we have to using the internet.

Some of those barriers may be:

  • limited knowledge of how it works
  • fear of scams
  • limited or no access to digital devices or internet
  • reasons to use it

There are places you can go in Wirral to get support and advice to use technology, LCR Be more – Digital access have an interactive map to help find places. Help is at hand if you are looking to buy a smart phone or laptop, want to set up a device or talk through how to go about getting internet in your home. There are a network of people across Wirral who are committed to sharing their knowledge. Age UK Wirral have Digital Buddies – volunteers who offer one to one and group support. More information can be found on Age UK Wirral Digital Inclusion

You may be able to access a cheaper phone and broadband package through Social Tariffs if you get Universal Credit, Pension Credit and some other benefits. More information can be found on Ofcom Social tariffs
