Starting primary school

School can be a great place where children and young people find friendship and support and learn as part of a community where they belong. However, lots of children worry about school from time to time, so there are ways you can try and support them.

If your child is worrying about going to school

  1. Talk to them about what they’re finding the most worrying.
  2. Talk to the school to find out what’s happening and what can be done to make things easier for your child.
  3. Help your child build up healthy coping strategies like using a worry journal or talking to you about their problems- whatever works best for them.
