Mums Matter is a perinatal service for women who are experiencing mental health problems linked to early motherhood. New motherhood is often imagined to be a time of great joy, happiness and excitement. However, the reality for many mums can be far from this, with low moods, anxiety and worrying thoughts and feelings.
At Wirral Mind, we support mums to manage every day, nurture themselves and dispel the many myths of motherhood. Our Mums Matter service is eight weekly sessions in a relaxed and friendly environment with new mums experiencing similar feelings.
What does our service provide?
The Mums Matter service aims to support mums to:
-
Develop methods to help them to manage their mental health and wellbeing.
-
Identify tools and strategies to nurture themselves.
-
Identify and make changes that will nurture and support their wellbeing and have a positive impact on their recovery.
-
Use calming exercises that draw on a range of relaxation techniques.
-
Practice techniques that draw on CBT principles to challenge and manage their thought process.
-
Build peer to peer relationships with other Mums Matter participants.
-
We also provide a crèche to give you the space and time you need to work through different themes, gain tools and skills and help you to feel yourself again.
What are the benefits of Mums Matter?
Women without a formal diagnosis are helped quicker than by traditional methods, for example talking therapies, thereby reducing the burden on those services.
