Family Matters are a Wirral Family help service that supports children, young people and their families with children 0-19 years. Families are supported as a whole, with individual needs identified. The team focus on building positive, trusted relationships with all family members.

The Family Matters service comprises of six Family help teams as well as a Family Group conferencing team and The Wirral Autism and Learning disability Keyworker team (WALK).

All the teams offer bespoke support to families to help address individual needs. Family Matters works with the whole family, offering support, advice and guidance, parenting support and innovative approaches to best support your family to make sustainable changes. They work closely with many different agencies to ensure that families have the most appropriate support.

Family help teams will work within the family home to support with issues such as:

  • Parental substance misuse
  • Support with home conditions
  • Parenting support
  • Advice around routines and boundaries
  • Family safety advice
  • Parental relationship difficulties
  • School attendance
  • Parental/child emotional well being.

The family help team will work in partnership with you and your family and other community organisations to help develop support networks within your own local area and help you to better understand where and how to seek support for yourself. Family workers may work alongside other children’s services colleagues to reduce safeguarding concerns and help improve family life for all.

Family Group Conference team can support your family to plan and implement your own safety plan and provide an opportunity to come together as a team to look at what help individual family members and extended family/friends can offer in terms of support. The theory behind FGC is that families understand best their own world and how to meet their own needs effectively. They aim to keep children within their family environment.

Wirral WALK team support children and families who have a diagnosis of autism and/or a learning disability with the additional risk of experiencing mental ill health. As this can make life difficult for families to manage, this team will support your family to understand better what will help to make daily life easier for the children and the parent/carer by embedding local offers and linking families into these services.
