Top tips for saving energy and reducing your bills

  • Lower your heating thermostat. Just turning it down by 1° can save money on your bill
  • Reduce your boiler flow temperature. This won’t reduce the temperature in your home but may take longer to heat up, could save you £100 a year on your bills, visit the following link for further guidance Money saving boiler challenge
  • Turn down radiators in rooms that aren’t used
  • Block any draughts so heat can’t escape through doors and windows. Visit Energy Saving Trust for more advice on draught-proofing
  • Switch electrical items off standby. Unplug any devices that aren’t being used
  • Take quicker showers
  • Reduce washing machine temperature and only wash when you have a full load
  • Use energy efficient light bulbs
  • Check for any benefits or grants you may be entitled to. Visit Ofgem
  • Be prepared for a power cut. Keep your mobile phone charged and have a torch handy; check in on neighbours; wear lots of layers and keep warm; and unplug devices that require supervision ,such as cookers, hair straighteners etc. If you have or suspect an electrical power cut, call the National Power Cut Helpline on 105 (24 hours, 7 days a week).
