ERIC, the Children’s Bowel and Bladder Charity is the UK’s leading charity supporting all children and teenagers with a bowel or bladder problem.
For over thirty years, we have been providing information and emotional support to families about these common but often misunderstood conditions. Our vision is for all children and young people to live a healthy and happy life regardless of any bladder or bowel issue they may face.
Our services include
- A free telephone and email helpline
If you are dealing with a wee or poo problem, or caring for a child who has a continence condition, we are here to help you. For information, confidential advice and support, call our advisors Monday to Thursday, 10am to 2pm on FREEPHONE 0808 1699 949.
- Clinically correct information and digital resources on:
Potty training
Potty training information and tips from the experts to guide you through the process of getting your child out of nappies and into pants for good.
Every child is different; they learn to walk and talk at different times and they learn how to use the toilet at different times too. However, most children are ready to be potty trained between 18 months and 3 years.

Bowel problems including constipation
Poo problems in childhood are really common – constipation alone affects a third of all children. Because we are not very good at talking about these problems, we can feel that our child is the only one.
The good news is we have lots of information to help you and your child understand what is going on. If you already know your child is constipated, head straight for 'Advice for children with constipation'. Otherwise, take a look at ‘Poo problems – where to start’ first.

Daytime bladder problems
Needing a wee all the time, having to rush to the toilet, damp pants or big accidents – wee problems are a nuisance, and they are embarrassing. Sorting them out can be as simple as thinking about what your child is drinking - start by reading our Advice for children with daytime bladder problems.

Bedwetting
Bedwetting (also known as nocturnal enuresis) affects around half a million children and teenagers in the UK. It is an issue families can find very isolating and difficult to talk about openly. It can take a huge toll on family life and affect children's self-esteem and emotional well-being.
The good news is you do not need to wait until children grow out of bedwetting - treatment is available and recommended from the age of 5 years.
Visit the Bedwetting page on ERIC website
We have lots of information and practical tips about treating this common childhood condition and ways to make life a little bit easier. There are training courses for health and education professionals. We have support and information events for parents and carers. There is an online shop supplying a range of continence products for children.
