Alfie’s Squad is a non-profit organisation started by 14 year old Alfie Fitzsimmons. Alfie tragically lost his dad to suicide in May 2017.
The main purpose of Alfie’s Squad is to raise money to fund a support group for children bereaved by suicide. This is something that just doesn’t currently exist for children anywhere in the country. The support group will be similar to a youth club. A counsellor will be on hand for anyone that needs it, but it will be mostly a safe space where the children can make friends, carry out fun activities, and know that everyone else there is going through the same experience as they are.
Everything that will happen within the group has come from Alfie’s own ideas and suggestions.
Alfie was recently shortlisted for Fundraiser of the Year at the BBC Radio Merseyside Make a Difference Awards, where he received special recognition for being the only child finalist.
