Merseyside has a 180-year proud tradition of firefighting and has often been at the forefront of innovation and new technology during that time. It was in Liverpool that the world's first steam fire engine was put into service, decades before other cities.
Our Heritage and Education Centre has one of the largest photographic archives of any UK fire and rescue service, including more than 80,000 digitised files and pictures.
Located at Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service's headquarters in Bootle, the centre also houses memorabilia, vintage fire engines and equipment from past generations of firefighting.
