Wirral Mental Health Support Team (MHST) is part of Wirral Children and Young People’s Mental Health Service(CYPMHS), team offer within schools.

The team support schools to promote good mental health and wellbeing by offering support to school staff, assemblies, parenting workshops, and emotional wellbeing education groups for children and young people.

MHST offers direct support to children and young people with mild to moderate mental health difficulties, with a particular focus on low mood, anxiety and behavioural difficulties. This takes place within school (or a community setting during holidays) and can be 1:1 or small group support.

Every primary school in Wirral has a designated mental health lead who directly links with a named practitioner from the MHST team.

The MHST are also working with the following secondary schools:

Birkenhead Park
St Mary’s
Weatherhead
Mosslands
Oldershaw
Co-op Academy Bebington
Ridgeway
Prenton Girls

The majority of referrals to MHST are from schools but the team can accept self-referrals from families. MHST will always ask the family for permission to discuss the child with the school mental health lead.

This service is free and, if you think it is something your child would benefit from, please discuss this with their school, call Wirral CYPMHS on 0300 3033157 or visit Children and Young People’s Mental Health Service (CYPMHS)
