Knife crime includes any crime that involves the use of a sharpened weapon or blade. It is illegal for a person under 18 years old to buy a knife.

Important information to know should your child be carrying a knife:

  • Self protection is not a reason to carry a knife
  • Carrying a knife puts a person at more risk of being stabbed
  • Just being in company with someone that injures or kills another person can lead to a prison sentence
  • There is no safe place to stab someone, a puncture to any artery in the body can cause loss of life within minutes

If you are worried about your child or their friends, contact police @MerPolCC or via CrimeStoppers on 0800 555 111, or visit the Fearless campaign website: https://www.fearless.org/en/give-info.

Any information about knife crime can be reported anonymously to CrimeStoppers, If you’re concerned your call could be traced, dial 141 before 0800 555 111, this will block your phone number. This phone call could save someone’s life.
