There are many benefits to reading and writing which go far beyond improving literacy skills. Studies have shown that they can relax and improve our mood. They can help enhance the ability to express ourselves, build confidence and the capacity to influence.
With this in mind we promise to keep our charges low to allow customers to benefit from our services and / or fundraise for their causes. The main profit we receive is the pleasure from helping others and especially seeing their work published in a book.
After School and Weekend Writing Workshops
For children aged 8-13 years
Currently all our children’s courses are taking place via Zoom
To book or to find out more information email charles@readnowwritenow.org.uk or see our Facebook page for course times and days.
Our fabulously fun and informative workshops are aimed at both children who simply love writing and for those who struggle with it at school.
Led by author Charlie Lea, each half term the children write a short story based on a particular theme or using a famous book as inspiration. As the sessions progress, Charlie breaks down the story writing process and the children learn not only how to seek inspiration and plan their stories but also see how amazing literary devices and plot types can help their writing.
As a writer himself, Charlie is full of top tips to give out to the children and, to help make the learning easy and entertaining, there are games to play and quizzes to take part in.
Feedback from our children’s creative writing workshops is highly positive with parents and carers noting changes in their child’s schoolwork as a direct consequence of their attendance at our sessions.
The workshops follow the Key Stages of the National Curriculum. Children are encouraged to share their inspiration, ideas and stories with other members of the workshop. Some of the children on our courses have been coming for over five years.
